2011
I view this series Unfixable as a visual rephrase. I use nature as a metaphor and explore it for damages to mend. When I mend something, like a hole in a tree, my intent is to expose the ecology of the context, less than a hopeless desire of a permanent patch or fix. The idea of failure is a constant thread through my work. I realize that what I am working with and trying to do with nature will never be realized. But I believe that the human quality I add to my subject will leave the viewer to reevaluate or reflect how they view nature and or themselves with it. Process and materials are an important part of my work. I use both traditional and non-traditional materials. When I incorporate fabric into my work it is specific. The fabric tends to be clothing from people, used bed sheets and baby or childrens clothes.
